The Magic & Medicine of Calendula

Each month, my online group sits with a single plant so that we can full explore them personally. During this month-long sit which runs from New Moon to New Moon, we spend time each day studying the plant via materia medica, monographs, folklore, clinical studies, and more. Perhaps more importantly, we set aside a little time each day to slow down to tree speed, quiet ourselves, and invite the presence of the plant into our lives so that we can learn from them directly.

This monthly plant spirit ‘sit’ is plant sorcery in the works. This simple, heartfelt journey is what it looks like when we do what the ancient herbwise have done since time immemorial- seek out the tutelage of the plants directly. After all, what better expert is there on the mysteries of the green realm than the plants themselves?

This month we sat with the incredible Calendula Flower- exploring the botany of these flowers, the etymology of the name Calendula (hint: it’s connected to the word calendar!), medicinal virtues, folklore, magical virtues, and more. To support the journey, many of us crafted a Calendula infused herbal oil which we applied to our palms and soaked in as the leaves of a plant soak up the rays of the Sun and Moon. Some months we take the remedy internally with tea or tincture, other months we smolder them as incense, this month we did a topical working which was really lovely.

Here’s a full class on Calendula I just posted- it covers just some of the material I shared as part of the journey bundle:
